The Ibovespa advanced 0.4% to close at 187,423, rebounding from earlier losses on optimism over potential talks between the United States and Iran. US President Donald Trump said American officials held a “very good” meeting with Iranian representatives on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly and that another round of talks was planned. A senior Iranian official indicated that Iran could reopen the Strait of Hormuz within days if Washington eased military pressure and lifted its blockade on Iranian ports. The partial unwinding of the recent oil rally underpinned equity markets.

Among financials, performance was mixed: Banco do Brasil and Santander retreated 1.4% and 0.6%, respectively, while Bradesco and Itaú advanced 1.5% and 0.2%. Petrobras gained 0.7% despite softer oil prices. Vale added 0.4% after confirming the acquisition of a 30% stake in Ligga, and Axia climbed 1.3%. The Ibovespa remained volatile throughout the session, as investors reacted to the Central Bank’s Copom minutes, which were interpreted as somewhat hawkish.
